According to a survey, 1 in 4 iPhone users has cracked their screen at some point, with 15% of people currently using their device with a cracked screen. Broken screens are the most frequent cause of damage to iPhones which is why Apple is happy to offer their customers a range of iPhone screen repair support options. You can make an appointment at the Apple store or post your device for repair, but this service is far from free.
With prices ranging anywhere between £136.44 for an iPhone 5s and up to £ 316.44 for an iPhone 13 Pro Max, it is no surprise the users are looking for cheaper alternatives. As such, many people use iPhone screen replacement kits purchased online, which allow you to do it yourself from the comfort of your home.
Whilst our team at ImFixed would always recommend employing the help of a professional and experienced iPhone screen repair service, some steps can be taken to safely remove an iPhone screen.
What you will need:
- Pentalobe Precision Screwdriver
- LCD Screen Suction Cup
- Pry Tool
Start by turning your iPhone off and grabbing your Pentalobe precision screwdriver. You will then need to take out the two small screws on either side of the charging port on the bottom of the iPhone.
You will then take your LCD Screen Suction cup and firmly place it in the centre of your iPhone screen. From there, you will gently but firmly lift the screen ever so slightly so that you can fit your pry tool in between the screen and the frame. You then go around the device, raising on the metal frame and not the screen to ensure the screen does not break as you pry it up.
As you lift the screen, you will notice a metal board at the top end of the iPhone that has five screws in it. You will want to take your Pentalobe screwdriver and remove all five of these screws so that you can lift and remove this plate.
Underneath the plate, you will find two small clasps keeping the screen attached to the device. These are similar to lego and can be gently popped up and removed, allowing you to separate the screen from the frame completely. And there you have it, your iPhone is now ready for a brand new screen to be attached.
